Editorial Policy
How the JAN TV newsroom is organised, who is accountable for every story, how our editorial independence is protected, and where to read the detailed rules.
Last updated: 29 October 2026
1. Overview
JAN TV is a 24x7 Hindi news channel and digital news platform owned by CSL Infomedia Pvt. Ltd. Our editorial policy sets out how we commission, report, edit, verify, publish, and correct the journalism that appears on www.jantv.in and on the broadcast channel.
This page is the summary. The two documents that contain the detailed rules are:
Editorial Standards
Our rules on sourcing, attribution, anonymous sources, the use of AI tools, and plagiarism.

Read Corrections Policy →2. Newsroom Structure & Accountability
Every story published on JAN TV has a named accountable editor — either the individual reporter (when one journalist is responsible) or a desk head (for desk bylines). Anonymity is not permitted for bylines: a desk byline maps to a named desk head who can be contacted.
- Editorial standards board — sets policy, reviews serious ethical issues, and owns this page and the two detailed documents linked above.
- Managing editor — final decision-maker on publication, retractions, and legal review.
- Desk heads (National, State, City, Business, Entertainment, Sports, Digital) — accountable for every story on their desk.
- Standards editor — receives and reviews every correction request, and maintains the corrections log.
The masthead and editorial team page lists the people currently in these roles: JAN TV Editorial Team.
3. Editorial Independence
Our journalism is independent of advertisers, owners, and political parties. The following rules are non-negotiable:
- Advertisers do not see stories before publication. Sponsored content is clearly labelled as "Advertisement" or "Partner Content" and is kept visually and structurally separate from news.
- Owners do not approve individual stories. The CSL Infomedia board sets the budget and appoints the editor; it does not read the news before it is published.
- Political affiliation is disclosed. Any JAN TV journalist who stands for political office, joins a political party, or accepts a government appointment must resign from editorial duties before doing so.
- Gifts and hospitality above a nominal value must be declared to the standards editor and may not influence coverage.
- Financial interests. Journalists may not hold shares in companies they cover, and must disclose any personal financial interest that could affect a story.
ComplaintIf you believe a story on JAN TV has been influenced by an advertiser, a political party, or an owner, write to the standards editor at [email protected] with the subject line "Editorial Independence Concern". Complaints are reviewed by the editorial standards board.
4. Sourcing & Fact-Checking
Every factual claim we publish must be grounded in reliable, verifiable sourcing. We prioritise primary sources — documents, on-the-record interviews, official records — over secondary reporting. A single source is rarely sufficient for a consequential claim; we independently corroborate facts before publication.
The full rules are in Editorial Standards §1 (Sourcing).
5. Anonymous Sources
We use anonymous sources sparingly and only when the information is of significant public interest and cannot be obtained any other way. Anonymity is granted for a specific story, not as a blanket arrangement. At least one senior editor must know the source's identity and approve the use of anonymity.
The full rules are in Editorial Standards §3 (Anonymous Sources).
6. Use of AI
AI tools may be used for research, data analysis, transcription, and workflow efficiency — always subject to human verification. We do not publish AI-generated text, images, or audio as original reporting, and we do not use AI to fabricate or alter quotes. When AI has been used in a significant way, we disclose that use to readers.
The full rules are in Editorial Standards §4 (AI Use).
7. Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly, visibly, and permanently. Correction notes are placed on the article itself, linked from the corrections log, and — for significant errors — shared on our social channels and in our newsletter.
The full rules, including the review timeline and the exact wording of correction labels, are in our Corrections Policy.
8. Review of This Policy
This page and the two detailed documents linked above are reviewed at least once a year by the editorial standards board. The "Last updated" date at the top of each page records the most recent review.
